About Us

Our principal mission is to promote the appreciation of Francophone culture and the French language, and to encourage friendship and collaboration with the French-speaking world.

The Alliance Française de Saint Louis is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of Missouri.

The Alliance Française de Saint Louis provides:

  • French language courses for adults, children, and corporate entities looking to support the desire or need for language study;
  • Language certifications including the DALF;
  • Cultural activities for adults and children that present a comprehensive look at francophone culture in the 21st century. All our events are open to the general public;
  • An extensive video, music, and book library as well as other online resources for both native speakers and French language students.

Whether you are a native or fluent French speaker, a student of the language, or an interested non-French speaker, you are welcome to participate in the wide range of activities organized through the year.

Founded in 1883 by a group of eminent men, including the scientist Louis Pasteur, diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, writers Jules Vernes and Earnest Renan, and publisher Armand Colin, the Alliance Française is the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world:

  • 813 Alliance chapters world-wide;
  • 133 countries have at least one city with an Alliance Française; and
  • Over 100 chapters in the US.

The Alliances across the world are dedicated to promoting French language and francophone culture in order to foster relationships between people of all nationalities, ethnicities and races.

The Alliance Française de St. Louis will be recognized as the center for French language, culture and activities in the greater St. Louis area. We foster an appreciation for French language and culture, and maintain a center which serves as a resource for individuals, universities, corporations and cultural groups to learn more about France and French-speaking countries and their peoples. We provide the highest quality language classes and rich cultural programs. The Alliance Française de St. Louis serves a diverse membership in our community and seeks to accommodate a wide variety of interests.
