"Dominus Regnavit" Concert at St. Francis de Sales Oratory

  • St. Francis de Sales Oratory 2653 Ohio Avenue St. Louis, MO, 63118 United States (map)

Our friends at St. Francis de Sales Oratory invite you to experience an exhilarating setting of Psalm 93 by French baroque composer, Jean-Joseph de Mondonville. The music of 18th-century French composer Mondonville is currently undergoing a revitalization led by the musicological and artistic vision of William Christie. This choral and orchestral work is an example of the last days of the "Grand Motet," a French musical form characterized by descriptive, programmatic music, a forerunner in many ways to the symphonic genres of the 19th century. The chorus, "Elevaverunt flumina," which describes a flood, features the choir's imitation of crashing waves.

This performance marks the first joint performance by both the Kingsbury Ensemble and St. Francis de Sales Oratory's Choir. The Program will also feature soloists of the Kingsbury Ensemble directed by Maryse Carlin.

Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for students, and free for children under 12. Payment can be made at the event.
